Is Happiness a learned chemical
Are we making less happiness receptors?
Im not claiming to know the physiology of neurotransmitters , depletion, and what-how of the way that works, but its my understanding that by not excersizing thought-linkage deliberately we are more likely to experience depression.
Imagine a thought that always floods your brain with happiness transmitters. If its a thought we rarely think, we begin to lose receptors unless we find more thoughts like it.
Likewise, if we are constantly experiencing negative thoughts, we wind up with an abundance of receptors to fill, with less room for anything uplifting.
Over simplification, but it has me wondering if we can find a less pharmaceutical way to reverse the process.
Wasnt it John Assaraf that had the vision board in the movie The Secret ?
Maybe its possible to do something similar, until the thoughts become habitual.
I wasnt born with depression.
A line of situations that I felt ill-equipped to deal with happened in a cluster , overwhelming my thought processes and planting seeds like “what if this happens again? what if something else happens? whats going to happen next week, if this is a weekly thing? who’s going to die next, doesnt this happen in 3’s?”
Most of the people I know deal easily with these situations with the help of alcohol. I say easily, because they arent crying by the time they are drunk. Its a real distraction for them.
I know others who use pot. Again, it seems to work for them.
I know some on antidepressants. They work. They dont solve anything, but like the other substances, they give breathing space.
The idea is that the breathing space or more positive thoughts will recharge the brain to get through the stressful situations.
An antidepressant for a chemical imbalance is correcting the imbalance, but isnt teaching the body to produce these chemicals on its own.
Its like taking a weightloss pill, and then next year having to do it again.
I know alot of people think you cant teach the body to make chemicals your body appears to be lacking.
Science might agree with that, but there are exceptions to the rule, and even if there is only ONE exception, the one is proof we just havent figured it out yet is all.

don’t necessarily agree. Weight loss pills helped boost my metabolism…
always a temp fix. however, nothing about a weightloss pill is permanant. what may have happened is that the outcome of taking the pill left you with a happier self-image that caused you to want to be more active, but a pill by itself cannot permanantly alter your metabolism. agreed?
I really like the way the girl on the Reasons To Live site (reasonstolive.net) handles overcoming depression, but yes, I believe there is a non-chemical solution and I believe it starts with your thoughts.
Affirmations are good to try. I’ll write some for you if you’d like.
You can create a list of thoughts/ideas you like very much and use those to surplant less positive thoughts.
Can decide to give a thought no energy too… refuse to dwell on it or let it reside in your mind.
Hope some of these help. I had issues with depression from late fall to early spring for years.
great ideas if one isnt too depressed. anyone seriously depressed isnt going to do affirmations. great ideas if someone is having a bad day though.
I think happiness come from our mind. If we are relax, open mind and think positive so we can enjoy our life so the result is we will feel happy. Nice job
