Story for anyone with a heart
This is a story I heard yesterday from my brother.
If you cannot find THIS interesting , my blog is not for you
Background on the situation:
My brother , grandmother , and I are all financially challenged after my dad died last december. Dad was my day care so that I could work ; he also helped support my grandmother and brother so that we could keep a house in the family.
Now, my brother works outside in Florida landscaping.
He was anxious to get home after work , but had to stop and get gas and ciggarettes before getting home . After getting the gas, he had 4$ in his pocket.
He sees a homeless guy with a bicycle in the parkinglot. Having a rough day himself, he could not help thinking his 4$ might make a difference.
He walks over.
He notices that this guy had a tummy. Thought “maybe this guy is eating ok after all” .
My brother hands the 4$ to the guy and says “sorry this isnt much, but maybe it can help out a little. I am in a rough situation myself, so I know how a little can mean alot sometimes. Hope it helps.”
The guy says his name is John and talks with my brother a little bit about my brothers situation.
My brother asks John how he came to be homeless and John replied :
” Well I am from up north . I have a Vietnam Vet and wanted to be treated in the famous Moffit Cancer Center . ”
John then lifts up his shirt to reveal the huge cancer tumor in his stomache. It was horrible .
My brother told me tears were falling out of his eyes and he couldnt even hold them back.
John then said imediately ” Dont cry for me brother. Your the one with the financial problems, you have to save that house and that car. I have no material things to worry about . The guy upstairs is watching out for me”. At this point his friend joined him also with a bike and knew John was sharing his story. His friend nodded because they both hadn’t a thing but a bike and maybe a bag . Nothing.
My brother then asks “why arent you being treated?”
John replies ” Apparently you have to be 62 years of age to be treated for certain conditions by the vets, and I am 58. Moffit wont help me. I wont make it to 62. ”
Now i do not know for sure what resistance this man met to treatment. I dont know what the laws are, or if in the retelling of the info that facts have been messed up. All we DO KNOW FOR SURE is that this guy has infact tried to get help and was met with resistance.
John friend is in a similar situation, also having been in the military and is suffering without medical help .
My brother then says ” You know, I can bring you clothes and maybe a cooler, if thats helpful . I might have useful stuff for you both ”
John says ” I cant use anything right now. But you did help me out, I needed someone to talk to (while waiting for his friend) and you let me tell you my stuff. Thanks”
They make trips to various places for different kinds of help and wouldnt be able to carry anything on their bikes , especially being in poor health .
At this point my brother is tired and tells the guys he is going home to make tuna for grandmother and himself for dinner.
John says ” Ya makin’ tuna cassarole? ”
My brother laughs ” No sir, dont have the money for all that. Sandwiches will be just fine.”
John goes into his bag and pulls out a can of tuna.
“Here you go. Go have tuna sandwiches”
My brother tells them no way, you guys need it more than he does.
John replies ” Dont you worry about me. The guy upstairs is watching out for me. Take It”.
I cannot speak for anyone else, but I got several things out of this story.
Number one, dont assume you know anything about someone homeless . Everyone has a different story.
Dont assume they want anything from you, either. These guys tried to give my brother his 4$ back.
Dont assume the government cares if you get cancer, or if you are homeless and unable to treat it. This is what you get for serving your country . We as citizens may appreciate you.
President cant care LESS.
Finally , faith in anything gets you through.
These guys didnt push Jesus, they didnt push religion, they didnt push anything other than believeing that something other than themselves is also looking out for them.

Thank you, Lor, for posting this story. It just goes to show me once again that, even if you yourself are struggling, you can still reach out and help someone else in need.
