Re touched photos make me wonder about other exaggerated claims.
At the risk of looking really dumb,
I am going to admit that I thought touching up of magazine photos of celebs were rare, and when done, done minimally.
I mean, I have seen celebs in real life and thought that it makes sense that they are celebs, they really personified people who had their act together and wanted to look that part on the outside as well.
In real life, I was wowwed.
But then Im reading the latest blogs and articles on the prevalence of the habit, and that it is rare to NOT have a photo touched up.
I was horrified.
You mean these people havent manifested the reflection of their success in their image?
What chance do I got?
I still think its possible to find a level of self-percieved perfection on the outside, to the extent that we believe we can.
Using myself as an example, I was quite the ugly duckling turned swan. Okay, maybe not swan but you get the idea. Its all relative.
I think what bums me out is that its easy to believe we can achieve what others achieve, but its difficult to think we can do something that seems rare.
For instance, when we hear incredible weightloss stories…. cancer recovery ….. accident recovery …. broke mom gone-millionaire ….
dont we all think its natural to bloom with each personal success when others are blooming?
Maybe the real trick is that we do bloom with our personal successes when we see them for what they are and appreciate ourselves.
Maybe those using the touch-ups arent caught up emotionally with what they have achieved.
Shoulda-coulda-woulda been more but it isnt so I cant be satisfied with it.
I saw touch ups in weightlifting mags.
Isnt the purpose to show you what can be won with hard work?
*sigh*
I wont rant anymore on the shallow attributes of success.
I know I personally would never go there.
How much fun would it be to meet someone who saw your picture and was imediately dissapointed?
